Main Focus: Prologue Discussion

This resource is based on the prologue of the story.

We have looked at the main events and talking points from the prologue to complete with your class. Some of the questions could be lessons in themselves as they are fantastic points for your class to think about.

This resource is based on Chapter 5 of the book and apostrophes.

There are six different resource that encourage your class to identify the apostrophes and why it has been used.

The other resources are adding in the apostrophes for contractions, possessions and plural possessions.

Main Focus: Comprehension - Chapters 7 & 8

This is a comprehension resource for the story The Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch and is linked to chapters 7 & 8 of the book for Year 3 and Year 4.

There are four different comprehensions to choose from depending on the stage and ability of your children.

Main Focus: Vocabulary Extension - Chapters 9 & 10

Allow your classes the opportunity to look at the words used in chapters 9 and 10. You can then give them the opportunity to read the sentences and the chosen words in bold to explain their meanings in the context of the story.

This not only deepens their understanding of the story but improved vocabulary for future reading and writing.

Main Focus: Punctuation

This resource is linked to chapter 14 and focuses on adding different types of punctuation to the sentences.

There are different resources that take less of a focus. E.g the most challenging resource focuses on: capital letters, full stops, exclamation marks, commas, inverted commas, apostrophes and question marks.

The simplest resource focuses on capital letters, full stops and inverted commas.

Main Focus: Discussion - Chapter 16

This is a discussion resource based on chapter 16 of the book.

This is great as it encourages your class to reflect on different aspects of the chapter with regards to characters and plot.

This chapter is linked to when Barry decides that he wants to create a Grow Your Own Present’ business.

Main Focus: Negative Prefixes - Chapters 19-23

This resource focuses on negative prefixes used in sentences from chapter 19-23.

Your class will use the word bank to complete the sentences with negative prefixes.

The resource is differentiated from using the word bank to multiple choice.

We have also created a general sheet changing words into their negative by adding a prefix.

Main Focus: Sequencing

This resource is linked to chapter 26 of the story and your class will be reading the events in the story and sequencing them in the order in which they happened.

There are 17 different sections to order and the activity is broken into two sections. The answers have been provided.
