Stuck by Oliver Jeffers

Floyd gets his kite stuck up a tree. He throws up his shoe to shift it, but that gets stuck too. So he throws up his other shoe and that gets stuck, along with… a ladder, a pot of paint, the kitchen sink, an orang-utan and a whale, amongst other things!

Main Focus: Alphabetical Order

This reading resource focuses on alphabetical order and the book Stuck by Oliver Jeffers.

Your class will read the passage and place the words in bold into alphabetical order. They will then choose a few words of their own.

The resource is differentiated by four levels of difficulty.

Main Focus: Word Mat & Cloze

This is a useful resource to help your class if they decide to write a recount or for an independent writing task linked to the story.

We have also included a cloze style activity where your class will complete the sentences by adding in the words or pictures.

Main Focus: Phonics

This is a resource aimed at Ks1 and focuses on phonics.

Your class must try to locate the different sounds within the passage. it covers phase 3 up to phase 6.

Main Focus: Story Sequencing

In this activity your class will place the events into chronological order.

It could be useful for some learners to cut out the sentences, and referring to the story before sticking them into order.

Main Focus: Word Class

In this activity your class will read the passage taken from the book Stuck by Oliver Jeffers and focus in on identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives and placing them into the correct category.

Main Focus: Adjectives

This activity focuses on some of the adjectives used in the story.

Your class will read the passage and add in the adjectives from the list provided.

Main Focus: Vocabulary Extension

Oliver Jeffers uses some lovely vocabulary in the book Stuck and we have created an activity to help your Year 1 / Year 2 class explore this more and improve their vocabulary.

Main Focus: Capital Letters and Full Stops

In this activity your class will add in the capital letters and full stops to punctuate the sentences.

We have highlighted the areas where your class need to add in or change something and we have also left it blank to make it more challenging.

Main Focus: Matching

This is an a activity which focuses on the events in the story. 

Your class will match the things Floyd threw with the things in the tree.

Main Focus: Comprehension

This is a comprehension aimed at Year 1 and Year 2 for the story Stuck by Oliver Jeffers.

This will be completed once you have read the entire book with your Ks1 class.

Main Focus: Asking Questions

This resource focuses on asking questions.

Your class will ask range of question to match the answers. They will then ask a few questions of their own.
